Questions to ask before you submit

  • Did I include dates on my resume for all positions held?
  • Have I researched VPA and tailored my cover letter and resume toward its mission and the nature of its work?
  • Is it clear what makes me stand out from other candidates?

When to apply

Our entry-level professional job openings reflect the needs of our departments, and hiring occurs throughout the year. It is best to apply no earlier than two to three months prior to the time you are available to start work.

Addressing your cover letter

There is no single person to whom you should address your cover letter as many people review applications. Address your cover letter to “Sir or Madam.” If you were referred by someone who works at VPA, feel free to address it to that individual.

What we look for in a cover letter

Tell us why you would be a good match for VPA and the parts of the financial planning process which you are interested or have experience. Include skills you possess that are relevant to the work of the position you are applying to and explain what sets you apart from others. We recommend that you thoroughly review our Web site to gain a solid understanding of what we do and how your skills and experience could fit in. Read the “Ideal Candidates Have” section carefully and make sure you meet the minimum criteria.

What we look for in a resume

We want to see an outline of your professional skills, education and experience. Your resume should be up-to-date and include dates of each position held on your resume (beginning and end). Finally, make sure to provide us with an e-mail address that you check regularly. Be sure that any information you include in your cover letter is reflected in your resume.
